Project Reflection

For this Debate I was on the defense side for natural Gas. My argument was that we should have natural gas because it is a cheap form of gas. My real side for natural gas is that i am for natural gas so I was debating on the side that I wanted to be on. Over the course of this project I have been able to see the many arguments that people have about how different types of gases are being extracted from the ground and which types of gasses are more environmentally friendly in our universe. I have always been for natural gas because it is cleaner than power plants, and because it is better for our environment. Over the course of this project i have really gotten to see that I really do prefer natural gas to most other gasses. I think that the biggest piece of evidence that I found for this debate is that even though people say that fracking is really bad, we use it all the time to get minerals, and other types of gasses out of the ground. In this project I also learned all about how fracking works and I found out that when fracking for natural gas, pipes go way down in the ground below the aquifer level making it less dangerous because it isn't directly affecting the water that we will be drinking.  For the other side of the argument I think that their biggest argument was that Fracking is bad all over. In reality I am torn between this argument. Both sides had really good reasons as to why fracking is either good or bad. The questions that I would like to investigate further would be why have we not found a way to extract gas in a different way. I would also like to find out if having solar panels or having natural gas is better for the environment. I think it was really hard to argue with someone on the other side of the argument. Knowing that even if natural gas is good it still has bad sides to it makes it really hard to argue with the other side because i know that on some points they are correct in what they are saying. This debate helped me in humanities because I got to learn about how power plants work while preparing for this debate.  i got to learn about the steps it takes to make the energy that we use most often to this day and it helped me to form opinions on different types of energy, which helped me to make a better essay for humanities. For the debate I liked how the open arguments went. I liked that a teacher didn't have to lead us in the argument. The part that didn't go well was my opening statement and closing statement. i messed up quite a bit and if I could do it over then I would. Also the camera only captured our opening and closing statements which was a bummer because it didn't film our open argument.  All in all I had a really good time with this project and I learned some really important things that i shall take with me on into the future.
